    I've seen videos by an engineer named Mark Rober who left "special
    packages" for porch pirates that were apparently legal and which didn't
    get him into any legal trouble. His packages did NOT hold the pirate
    captive in an instant cage like the video Adam posted - I can well
    imagine that *that* is illegal - but Rober's package dispersed glitter
    and fake fecal odours, and included trackers, alarms and video recording
    that immediately sent the recording to the cloud so there was a record
    of who the thieves were.
