It sounds like it will be the ORIGINAL original (i.e. without the
"Episode IV: A New Hope" sub-title and with Han shooting first ...
*BUT* it remains to be seen.
The ORIGINAL original came out quite some time ago, paired with (some
version of) the Abominable Botch version.
Of course, it was from the LaserDisk, the ORIGINAL original being
claimed to no longer exist.
And idiotic claim, as using the LaserDisk as an editing guide and the
material in the Abominable Botch version (or, rather the "elements"
used for that version) would make recreating it, I should think,
rather straightforward.
Ironically, they did I -- VI in the same format (OK, I -- III had the theatrical version from the actual theatrical version rather than
Laserdisk) leaving the ORIGINAL original /not/ starting with
"Episode".
Typical: I get /exactly what I want and now find that it doesn't match
the rest of the set.
The only way to win is not to play.
More hopefully: IIRC, when /The Empire Strikes Back/ was added to the
National Film Registry, Lucas sent the Abominable Botch version and it
was /rejected/ as "not being the film being honored". A pristine print
of the theatrical version showed up the next week.
So we may yet see IV--VI in their original theatrical versions, if not
on DVD, then at least on BD. Or not, as the case may be.
