The major global issue

You might need to give it some thought, but in my view, the most pressing issue in the world right now is how we will get through the coming winter regarding the energy situation.

This applies not only to Europe, Ukraine, and Russia, but effectively to the entire world. The energy situation looks bleak and is deteriorating by the day.

Due to the blockade of the Red Sea, there is now also a risk that the Far East will face an oil shortage. Furthermore, an oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia has been put out of action for weeks by rebels in Yemen.

It is perhaps fortunate that China has now brought its oil refineries back online. The question, however, is what oil it will use for this purpose.

By restarting the refineries, China is taking a gamble. After all, it needs oil to do so; if it does not wish to tap into its strategic reserves, it must make purchases. Yet, if China starts buying oil on the global market now, it will drive prices up further.

This works against Trump, which could be a good thing, but it also works against China. After all, they want to keep energy costs low there as well.

In any case, the global energy situation is already a major issue, but things are set to get tense in the coming months.
