  • Luxon has pretty much announced the Grand Coalition to come.

    Luxon has definitively hung his hat on two policies:
    (1) Social media ban for under-16s, thus requiring a national ID to
    use social media, and
    (2) Staying on the bullshit Paris climate agreement which costs us
    something like $6B/year in direct payments.

    On both these "non-negotiable" points, Luxon is aligned with Labour,
    and is opposed by both NZFirst and ACT, especially point #2 which is a
    primal issue for both. When Luxon says that #2 is non-negotiable, he
    is saying that Labour is his chosen coalition partner.

    Now Luxon seems to imagine that he will be the PM in a Nat-Labour
    coalition. But if Labour gets more list votes than National, they
    have a bonafide claim to the PM job. That might give Luxon some pause
    and maybe a wee rethink. But if National gets the most list votes,
    Grand Coalition, here we come.

    Mind you, most Nat MP's will not at all be happy about that. Maybe
    they'll regret that they didn't back Penk while they had the chance.
    Luxon may yet be rolled after the election if he insists on the Grand Coalition. I would say it's interesting but really it's just dreary.

    Luxon will only be rolled after the election if National comes second
    in the tally of Parliamentary seats.

    The Grand Coalition may happen but only Hippy will call it.
