    Dan Ritter composed on 2026-06-29 09:33 (UTC-0400):

    I have this.

    2b:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Polaris 20 XL [Radeon RX 580 2048SP] (rev ef) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

    Here's what I need for Debian stable:

    Packages:

    firmware-amd-graphics
    xserver-xorg-video-amdgpui
    libdrm-amdgpu1

    "Need" might be an overstatement. A week ago I compared use of my old
    GCN#2 Kaveri iGPU using the brand specific amdgpu display driver provided by xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu to using the default generic display driver modesetting,
    using glmark2, and the difference was trivial:

    default 7.0.12 amdgpu module/KMS: 2067
    default 7.0.12 amdgpu module/KMS, amdgpu device driver: 2050

    More detail in <https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1262791#c6>.

    Config:

    /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config contains:
    allowed_users=console

    startx and lightdm both work.--
