    Hi,

I was looking at the sponsor list for DebConf and noticed it's a very specific audience ? open source developers, sysadmins, and the tech companies that support them. Finding the right commercial contacts at those potential sponsor companies can be time-consuming.

We maintain a dataset focused on the open source and Linux ecosystem. It includes Verified Emails and Direct Dials for IT decision-makers and developer relations leads at the technology firms that typically participate in these events. The data is GDPR / CCPA Compliant and gets a Quarterly Refresh.
This last sentence, coming from an outlook.com addres is... priceless.

Is it even possible for a leads database such as this, collected without
the consent or information of the people documented in it, to be GDPR compliant?

Now that I think about it I know that there are some US startups whose
entire business model is doing this on a massive scale, but I've always
assumed them to be not too concerned about following the law, as is
typical with the tech oligarchs operating there.

No and neither is the marketing email to a distribution list like this,
rather than a plausible single business contact.

Add on the fact that the sender uses a freemail address with a weird mis-spelled local part and what you get is: it's not even illegal
marketing, it is most likely some other form of scam.

    Thanks,
    Andy

I think it is AI slop spam. I hereby propose the term "slomp".
I doubt they see the reply (let alone read it). The irony, though,
was just too strong for me to resist...

    Most probably not, no.

Laws is for us suckers, not for them.
