I was only able to copy a few words of text from konsole to kate and can't repeat that
success. So I still need help. The errors I am getting are simply this: I keep my time in a
program called etm in konsole. It produces a file which contains the date, the work I did
that day and the time it took me to accomplish that work. Etm was recently succeeded
by a new program called tklr which is bettr. So I am no longer using etm. However I
need to get the time saved in etm into kate so I can send client bills.

When I highlight 3 or 4 lines of text in etm and attempt to paste that lines into kate,
nothing happens. I got it to copy once using the middle mouse but can't repeat that.

    Many applications use this method:

. click in the text you want to capture,
. press Ctrl-A to select all the text,
. press Ctrl-C to copy the selected text,
. paste the text in some way:
. you might be able to paste into an editor with Shift-Insert,
    . ditto with Ctrl-V,
. ditto with middle mouse button,
. ditto if right mouse button yields a little selection menu.

Not using Konsole, I know nothing about this selection method:

    https://docs.kde.org/trunk_kf6/en/konsole/konsole/selection.html

nor where or how to paste such a selection.

    Cheers,
    David.

Shooting dark since description of the issue is not detailed enough:
press and hold [Shift] before selecting text using mouse in a terminal emulator. Some applications running in terminals handle mouse events themselves unless [Shift] is pressed.

I hope, it is not an issue with synchronizing X11 and Wayland selection
    and clipboard.

    John

In Konsole ctrl + shift + c copies and ctrl + shift + v pastes.
    In Kate/Kwrite/Kmail ctrl + c copies and ctrl + v pastes.
