• FREE GAMES: "Otxo" and "Sol Cesto" [EPIC]

    From Spalls Hurgenson@3:633/10 to All on Thursday, July 30, 2026 12:38:09

    Woof. I'm running late today... but what can I say, life has been
    getting in the way. But I'm trying to get back on track. Let's start
    with the usual free games from Epic that we get every Thursday.

    #

    * Otxo
    https://store.epicgames.com/p/otxo-396b8b
    A top-down rogue-like shooter with tri-chromatic
    (black, white and red) visuals. Basically, it's
    a "Hotline Miami" clone. Fine, if you like that
    sort of game (it's not really my thing) but not
    very inventive beyond that.

    * Sol Cesto
    https://store.epicgames.com/p/sol-cesto-e9b803
    A "tactical roguelite" where 'mastering luck is key".
    Just that description makes it sound very grindy and
    too dependent on RNG for me to ever enjoy. It's art style
    isn't doing much for me either. Reviews use words like
    'meta-progression' and 'gambling' and 'ugly art'. Some
    people really seem to like it. I don't think I'm going
    to be joining their ranks, though.

    Alright, that's it for now. Too much other stuff to catch up on to
    linger around this post for very long. More free games next Thursday.
    See you then!

    I played it for about 5 minutes and said hell no. I don't like the top
    down aiming and 2-shotting of both me and enemies, and the graphics look
    like ass. Doesn't seem like Hotline Miami at all.

    I gave it an hour and a half. It's surprisingly fairly good, I'm
    thinking about going back to it. It's somewhat of a puzzle game, as
    combat is automatic. You land on a random cube on the row you choose,
    and "fight" by comparing your attack vs their attack or your magic vs.
    their magic, any higher than your attack and you take that much damage
    but kill the monster if you survive. You generally don't want to combat
    the monsters, and just want to get the treasure/healing. But you have
    to go through a certain number of encounters to go on to the next floor.

    I started getting irritated with it when it raised the attack values of
    the monsters on the first floors, and I couldn't get as far as I'd
    gotten previously to that.
