Rather than wait until the end of the month when I forget what I played,
I'm going to start "I Played" for games I've finished... or otherwise am
done with.
So I played Chorus ***** (2021)
It's a space action game, where you gain/retrieve powers in addition to upgrading your ship. I got 57% of achievements, and finished the game.
It's about 24 hours with all the side missions I did. Five stars. It's
that good. I had elated tears in my eyes finishing it.
The gameplay is really good, using your powers and ship to fight things.
It's definitely more action than sim. I can see the similarity to Star
Wars, but you have much more powerful abilities... eventually. You start
out with only a scan power and it's a long time until you get your next
power, and it feels like a normal Star Wars/Wing Commander type game
until then, and even then the first power you retrieve allows you to
teleport directly behind enemies, which I didn't really use because
drifting worked well enough. Storm is the next one which I used a lot,
it disrupts all shields and engines in a close AOE for a few seconds
leaving enemies vulnerable to attack. The last couple I didn't use much
until the end game, so didn't see much use, but were both fun to use.
The advanced invulnerable shields were a pain to deal with until I got
Storm ability. They're maybe directional and have a time limit on them
once hit, or go away for a bit after taking a certain amount of damage
though. It took me a long time to realize dodging was left or right and spinning the ship, and not hitting the L3 button (I used controller)
because that's what the game showed, but I got it down eventually. The
last boss was difficult, but the Faceless boss at the end of the second
act (well what I'm assuming was the second act) was much harder.
I probably would've been better off using mouse & kb, as I at one point
I couldn't get past the final gate battery and I looked it up, and it
appeared the person I watched was using mouse control which was much
more precise for targeting.
The visuals were fine, though all people you talk to were just a little portrait, at least they were all voice acted. Voice acting is alright
to good for the most part. The story is sort of Star Wars adjacent,
though different with corruption and harmony instead of light side and
dark side, and a lot more fluid, and none of the only two darksiders
stuff. I enjoyed the story, but I see most people don't think much of
it. *shrug*
