Oh Amazon, don't make me regret some of the nice(ish) things I've been
saying about your Prime Gaming selections these past few months...
[URLs below are informative only and not how you claim
the freebies... but you knew that already]
#
* Mafia II: Definitive Edition (via GOG)
https://www.gog.com/en/game/mafia_ii_definitive_edition
Normally I'd only have good things to say about the
inclusion of this game. It's not the best game in the
series (that honor remains with the first game) but it's
pretty, it has an interesting story, and some nice map
design and visuals. The problem isn't with the game
itself; the problem is that this is a repeat give-away
(Amazon offered it back in March 2025 previously). And
since these games aren't /really/ freebies (seeing as I
have to pay for the service to claim them), paying twice
for the same product makes me a bit grumpy.
* Fruitbus (via GOG)
https://www.gog.com/en/game/fruitbus
This one is a cutesy cross between a cooking-simulator
and a workplace sim. Drive your foodtruck (specializing
in fruit-related meals, hence the name) to find new
recipes and ingredients to feed to its anthropomorphic
animal cast of characters. A bit too 'cozy' for me, even
if the genre was something I enjoyed.
* Lethal Honor: Order of the Apocalypse (via EPIC)
https://store.epicgames.com/p/lethal-honor-order-of-the-apocalypse-84604c?lang=en-US
A rather shallow and sophomoric 2/3rds view hack-n-
slasher which depends too heavily on its 'adult comic
book' aesthetic at the cost to its mechanics and story.
Meh.
* Survival: Fountain of Youth (via Amazon)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1967630/Survival_Fountain_of_Youth/
Yet another open-world survival/crafting game, this one set
in the 16th century Caribbean Islands. Start with nothing,
collect garbage, build your base; you know the routine.
It's nothing special. Meh.
* 60 Minutes to Extinction: Escape Room (via GOG)
https://www.gog.com/en/game/60_minutes_to_extinction_escape_room
A first-person action/adventure puzzle game. Despite its
name, it's less an 'escape room' and more an 'escape a
collapsing bunker' game. The hook to this one is that you
have only 60 real-time minutes to figure everything out
and you can't save the game. Which means if you fuck up 30
seconds to the end you have to play again from the start.
I guess some people like that sort of thing, but I detest
repetition, so that mechanic alone makes me want to avoid
this game entirely.

Overall, an average selection, mostly elevated by the inclusion of
"Mafia II"... and that's a repeat. I hope the fact that Amazon Prime
is repeating Mafia II isn't a indicative that they'll start doing so
with other games too.
See you in a fortnight.
