It's not really a game, Boxroom. At least, it doesn't seem to be. But
the idea of it intrigues me. Boxroom links to your Steam library and
lets you create a room where you can display your games as virtual
boxes, making the perfect gaming den.*
It's not a game launcher; no, instead, it's the virtual equivalent of
a Rachid Loftf painting.** Is it a game worth paying for? Probably
not... although I am tempted to see how many games it could actually
handle. Do you think I could make it buffer overflow with my library?
Oddly, I once tried something similar, albeit with D&D PDF files and
HTML instead of a 3D-rendered room. It essentially auto-rendered a
bookshelf and the goal was --when you clicked on one of the books-- it
would 'pull out' and show you a rotatable 3D model of the book, with
the cover and back textured with the actual book covers. Then
double-clicking on the book would open the PDF. But I never got much
farther than the basic framework and ultimately gave it up as too much
work for too little gain. ;-)
But it just shows that there's a desire to give our digital assets
some sense of tangibility.
Anyway, I thought it was neat.
