• Samsung S24 FE and Hearing Aids and Ringtone

    This seems very odd to me--perhaps someone here will have a logical explanation.

    When wearing hearing aids, I've always gotten the ringtone for incoming
    calls, and the caller's voice, clearly hru the hearing aids--until
    recently.

    In the last week, I missed a couple of calls from my wife, and suffered the expected punishment. But I couldn't understand why I never heard the phone ring. On a couple of calls, I heard the ringtone thru the phone's speakers,
    and picked up the conversation just fine, hearing the caller's voice in my
    aids without problem. When I experimented, I found that the ringtone just wasn't coming in thru the aids. I chased this problem all over the web,
    and spent a couple hours poking thru the settings on the phone, but found nothing that helped.

    This morning, it dawned on me that I hadn't turned WiFi back on after going
    on a 2-day trip a couple of weeks ago, so I turned it back on. A couple
    hours later, I got a call and heard the ringtone clearly in the hearing
    aids!

    I would never have thought that WiFi would affect whether or not the
    ringtone would reach the hearing aids (the hearing aids are Bluetooth).

    There is obviously something I'm not aware of.

    You didn't mention if you had checked if Bluetooth was enabled before
    however you reenabled wifi. Perhaps your phone reenabled Bluetooth when
    you reenabled wifi. For example, if you had your phone in Airplane Mode
    then both Bluetooth and wifi are usually disabled. On my prior phone,
    enabling Airplane Mode disabled both Bluetooth and wifi, but disabling
    Airplane Mode only reenabled wifi. Bluetooth didn't get reenabled, so I
    had to remember to do it myself. On my new phone, I've not bothered
    using Airplane Mode since my intent is to only mute the sound when
    somewhere I shouldn't have my phone causing interruptions. On your
    phone, Airplane Mode might toggle both Bluetooth and wifi.

    The experiment to do here is probably to turn off wifi and see if it
    still works as intended.

    If it's Bluetooth, and just plain Bluetooth pairing with no manufacturer-specific proprietary application in the middle, it
    shouldn't need wifi, perhaps unless there's something wrong with the
    phone hardware.

    While the Airplane Mode would explain this, it'd also kill the cell
    radio communications, so there'd be no call to ring at all.

    Besides a possibly less decent radio component (it could be Broadcom,
    and maybe they're as good for bluetooth as they are for wifi), it's also possible the phone OS is doing something unexpected. Including some
    confusing state that'll get cleared on reboot, if you haven't powered
    down or rebooted ever since you returned.

    OP states quite clearly that the aids worked just fine during a call. They simply stopped receiving the ringing tone. Must mean bluetooth was enabled.

    Could it be some energy saving feature in the BT radio when wifi is turned
    off also turning off BT when the phone isn't in use.

    With wifi turned off, but the with you actively using the phone, do your
    aids receive the ringtone?

    I don't have hearing aids, but I experienced the same thing. I didn't
    get a ringtone at all and missed calls. My mother experienced the same
    thing.

    The culprit was the setting for WiFi calling.

    Settings > Network and Internet > SIM cards > (select SIM & scroll down) Calling > Use call via wifi (slider is probably activated already) >

    *Preference* for calling (this is the one)

    If it's set to 'Calling over/via mobile network', then change it to

    Call over/via wifi

    I didn't touch on wifi earbuds. Those exist, too. Maybe the OP thinks
    his earbuds are using Bluetooth, but they're using wifi. In some, the
    WLAN chip does multi-duty: Bluetooth (2.4GHz), wifi (2.4 and 5GHz), and
    UWB (6GHz). The OP said he is using hearing aids, not earbuds, and
    those may require additional software instead of the default protocol interfaces. That the OP is using hearing aids may infer there are more
    features than just plain earbuds. Those could have multiple interfaces
    looking like separate devices to configure.
