  • An unnoticed advantage of eSIM

    Just a comment, another big advantage of eSIM that I had not considered,
    is now I won't have to open the sim drawer, even when I leave the
    country.

    In the past I could never remember what side of the phone is up from the
    pov of the drawer, so it was always a risk that a card would fall out of
    the drawer. Now I don't have to hunt for a paper clip**, and I don't
    even have to take the case off, unless and until I want to take out the
    SD card.

    **I bought paper clips at the dollar store, and I'm not sure they are
    strong enough open the drawer. I'm not sure they are springy enough to
    hold more than 3 sheets of paper together.

    BTW, ASI says "SD cards and microSD slots are disappearing from consumer devices like smartphones and laptops because manufacturers want to sell higher-tier internal storage and push users toward profitable cloud subscriptions. Internal storage is also much faster, and recent
    component shortages have strained flash memory production"

    So, not because SD cards are not useful. OTOH, besides cost,
    portability seems to be their major advantage over internal storage and normally I would just connect the phone to the computer and transfer a
    bunch of files that way. OTOH, if the phone failed, I could remove
    everything in one shot.

    The internal storage is faster. I usually don't care about that, and I
    bought a V30 card, so I'm going to try to put other files, not just
    photos and videos, on the card.

    Can files I download be sent to the SD card?
