• Clock Features Accessibility(?)

    On my Samsung/Android phone, I can access the camera functions with a click
    and a swipe--no logon.

    I'm wondering what *should* prevent us from doing the same for the clock functions?

    AFAIK adjusting the clock is a privileged operation. Possibly not
    allowed at all on modern phones.

    On my Pixel 8a (running android17) I go into

    ˙˙˙˙Settings > System > Date & Time

    by default Automatic Date & Time is turned on, which means you can't
    adjust them manually, so turn that off

    Then a calendar picker and clock picker which were previously greyed-out
    are enabled.

    The same applies to my Samsung tablet (running android16/One UI 8.5) within

    ˙˙˙˙Settings > General Management > Date & Time

    except the calendar and clock pickers get hidden, rather than greyed
    when Automatic is enabled.

    Ah, yes.

    Long ago the smartphone would not get the time right, automatically.
    There was an app to adjust the clock with better accuracy,
    automatically, using NTP. This worked nicely.

    But at some point Android made the operation privileged, so the app
    stopped working. It would warn when the time differed, set a time, and
    the user had to press enter to accept the proposed time (doing it at the
    exact second would do the operation accurately).

    Some years after that the phone got accurate time automatically, so that
    tool is not necessary.

    No, Android also allows to manually set date and time. Don't confuse
    "accessing the clock functions with a swipe without logon" with "change date/time".
