**No surprise to me. SWMBO owned a 1989 Ford Telstar (Mazda 626 clone)
for 20 years. Two problems in all that time. Clutch master and slave
cylinders ($600.00 repair) and the air conditioning evaporator
    (unrepairable).

In fact, the only reason the car was disposed of, was due to the non-availability of spare parts to repair the air con.

Very reliable. That said, the Subaru Levorg is well on the way to
approaching the Telstar. 8 years old and no problems so far.

Certainly very possible, many older diesels lasted for very many kms although even newer ones can last if treated well.
My son's basic 2016 Hilux Workmate 2.4lt TD manual has done more than 400,00km and its still his daily work vehicle, the tray is loaded with
tools and towing an 8X5 tandem trailer loaded with solar panels and batteries.

One of my neighbours is a fencing contractor, he has an ancient Mazda
ute which tows a similar trailer usually loaded with wooden fencing
materials. He told me that it has about 370k on the clock.

To say that only a Hilux can get to 250k is stupid.

I owned an XD Falcon panel van that had done 420,000km by the time I
sold it to my nephew, I bought it at around 100,000km, not long after I

Back in the days when locally made cars were popular as Taxis, 145 out
of every 150 taxis on our roads were Ford Falcons and the main reason
for that was despite being somewhat agricultural they were extremely
durable in that role. Particularly in the XF range which could see three quarters of a million km's in service like it was nothing.
