Hydrogen will never be viable for mainstream automotive use but will
have a niche in heavy industries.

I remember the hydrogen bus trial in Perth, those things cost zillions
    didn't they?

I remember the Yaris hydrogen trial where the fuel tanks filled the rear passenger and luggage compartments in order to get a decent range. Also,
where will you fuel it up? Limited places in Australia and that hydrogen
in those places is sourced currently from *fossil fuels* and that is
where the CO2 becomes a pollution factor. You could break water down
into H and O but for that you need *electricity*. To make it CO2 neutral
    you need totally green electricity.
Currently in Australia, and the rest of the world, we have a complete
fueling infrastructure for liquid fossil fuels. HEVs and PHEVs can use
those directly so they make much more sense at this juncture. A full BEV charging infrastructure is being rolled out as I write this so that
takes care of the more distant future. Do you seriously think that a
full rollout of fueling infrastructure for hydrogen ICE vehicles is ever
going to happen except in very niche markets? I see lots of places where trials are conducted but, typically, they lead to naught.

Yep. Singapore is looking at it for power generation to start with.
Doubt I will see full ICE/hydrogen development in what remains of my
    lifetime.
