Those sort of stories have been around for a while, brands like Maserati
have always been low volume so it wouldn't be a surprise if they did disappear.
The number of new brands from China is significant and there is a lot of competition in that segment so its no surprise that MG sales are down
but I very much doubt that they will pull out of Australia.
I recently saw a story about BYD sales dropping by almost 50% inside
China but their export sales have increased, apparently the substantial incentive schemes in China to buy EV's has been wound back which could
explain why domestic EV sales are dropping.
There is also fierce competition domestically from more than 100
different Chinese brands so its no wonder the big brands are loosing
    market share.

I don't think any brand mentioned in the "story" (and I use the term
loosely) have announced that they're packing up and going home, so I
think it's safe to say that it's another episode of Felix click bait :)

I mentioned that quite some time ago. Also, the Chinese economy is
tanking, lots and lot s of unemployment, wages have dropped below
subsistence levels and those with cash are wary of buying *anything*
hence the Chinese home market has collapsed. lots of overseas companies
are pulling out due to Xi's bullshit politics and that has only
    aggravated the situation over there.

There is also fierce competition domestically from more than 100

Profitable companies? No, less than 20-25 of those.

different Chinese brands so its no wonder the big brands are loosing
    market share.

Know what happens to a Chinese EV when the parent company goes bust? It becomes a great big hunk of scrap metal. Lots of people in China now
with EVs they cannot drive because the vehicle control system is
rendered inoperable because to company went bust.

That's why I wouldn't even look at a BYD. The company in China is shaky.
Will their overseas cars still be drivable once HQ goes under? I'm
    betting not.
