it had never been serviced so the oil had turned to sludge, the thrust washer behind 5th gear failed taking out 5th gear syncro, took most of
one day just to clean it all, 3 weeks to get the parts which had to come from Japan.
The week before that I changed the gearbox oil in my Porsche which isn't
as simple as it should be and even requires special tools.
I almost forgot, I also changed the rear shocks on the Golf:-)

For example, 2 days ago I diagnosed a possible stretched timing chain
on a VE, a couple of days before that I used my inspection camera to
inspect the diff in one of Les's race cars, the hardening on the CW&P
has failed so we removed it, the new CW&P has arrived and we are
rebuilding it on Friday.
The week before that I rebuilt a gearbox from a 2007 Hilux, looks like
it had never been serviced so the oil had turned to sludge, the thrust
washer behind 5th gear failed taking out 5th gear syncro, took most of
one day just to clean it all, 3 weeks to get the parts which had to
come from Japan.
The week before that I changed the gearbox oil in my Porsche which
isn't as simple as it should be and even requires special tools.
I almost forgot, I also changed the rear shocks on the Golf:-)
I hear ya.
I'm usually in my workshop every day doing something or other. Aty the moment I'm rebuilding the rear axle and brakes on my Mazda truck, which includes machining the drums. Next week I'll be making a manifold and
air filter adapter to fit a Weber 32/36 carb to it's engine to replace
the hideous Hitachi heap of shit they ran. After that it'll be an engine rebuild, body & paint, and then putting it all together.
After that I'll decide whether I want to start on the Fairlane, or swap
the Jag suspension brakes and steering into the F-100.
Do I consider myself a "mechanic" or "trade relevant" for doing all
that? Nope. Not in the slightest. I'm retired, and these days I just do stuff to amuse myself. So I don't need to poonce around here pretending
that I'm an automotive guru despite not having worked on anything for
almost half a century.
I'm happy to leave that shit for the mental cases suffering from
relevance deprivation :)

What Keith (and Daryl) were saying is that posting the number *in
isolation* without any reference to where one could go to *verify* it is
meaningless. What the mental case should have done was post the number
with a comment along the lines of "this number can be verified by

even be considered for a job as a qualified motor mechanic or your
resume goes straight in the bin - as a timewaster. Experience is
considered on top of being qualified but without qualifications
experience counts for absolutely nothing by itself.

Any employer would consider the liability implications in hiring someone
who is not qualified to performs a role where qualifications are a requirement. The fact they don't think it matters proves they have never
