hoverflies, and birds are everywhere. Christophe and his team of gardeners achieve this lush generosity by composting leaves, bringing in chopped wood from tree-pruning companies, and spreading horse and sheep manure from
local farms. Trees provide shade for more delicate plants and habitat for animals. Dead wood on the ground provides nesting sites for local insects.
As part of a management plan that aims to integrate into the site?s
ecology, Christophe and his team encourage the growth of local plants
alongside the focal aromatic plants. So, even in this place where species
from around the world are gathered, local plants are foundational, seeding themselves and finding their way with some help from gardeners. The result
is the antithesis of formal gardens, places where we force geometric order
onto plants, aiming to please only the human eye. Here, humans and plants entwine their work, producing a place full of life and delight for all the senses.
